Kayaker Rescued By Police After Going Overboard In Lake Carasaljo

VIDEO: Police this afternoon rescued a kayaker who fell out of his kayak in Lake Carasaljo. The boater, wearing a life jacket, fell overboard at about 3:15 PM, and was unable to get back into the boat.

A friend boating with him was apparently unable to get him back in.

Captain Gregory Meyer and Deputy Chief Fred Capper – both from the LPD dive team – responded to the rescue, along with EMS and Lakewood First Aid.

Captain Gregory Meyer went into the water and assisted the boaters as they got closer to the shore.

The boater was uninjured, but was transported to the hospital for observation.

  1. the kayaker had a life jacket – why did he just not swim to shore? or his friend could have pulled him to shore with the kayak..

  2. maybe the person panicked-in which case it wouldn’t matter how far it was to shore,,how deep the water ,or even the fact that his friend was unable to pull him back into the kayak

  3. In most of the lakes in Lakewood you can walk out. The only deep parts is in the middle where the original stream went. I used to go fishing there and a 5 foot anchor rope was long enough to hold my boat in place.

  4. What business is it of yours as to why the boater couldn’t just swim to shore ? You have a boater that was calling for help and you got an immediate response from Lpd, ems, Lfas and oem. Be thankful that these organizations exist for our benifit and are there when they are needed.

  5. to #8:
who is not thankful?? everyone appreciiates lpd/ems/lfas/eom/hatzala/lcsw/etc.
they are there for when they are needed. not to waste their time when they are not. and this was a waste of police resources.

  6. Waste of time ?! Could you imagine that g-d forbid it was your children out there calling for help ?! You would prob requesting additional resources. Thankful people don’t complain, they say thank you

  7. OMG – imagine if it was one of my kids safe in a life jacket that fell out of a kayak and was in no danger – darn tootin I would tell them to swim for shore instead of calling the police.

you sound like a very bitter person. happy day.

and lpd/ems/lfa – thank you for responding!!

  8. TO ??? I’ve heard that there have been many drownings in that lake. I’ve also heard that there are many water plants that your feet can get caught on and make it hard to swim safely. Therefore, the best thing for a boater to do would be to stay where he is, safe in a life jacket, and wait for help.

  9. Falling into water that is roughly 40 degrees can take the life out of someone, he was most likely too cold to move but hey what do I know. Bitter person ? A conversation doesn’t go your way so you resort to name calling ? You don’t seem like you have children if you did and you wouldn’t help your child that is calling for help I would hope your children get taken away from you.

  10. Time to pass the torch DC. There is no reason a Deputy Chief (moderated) and a Capt. (moderated) should be going into the water. Can’t these duties be delegated to someone in Patrol?????
