BREAKING NEWS: School Board Elections Moved Back To April

FIRST REPORT: The Board of Education has just voted to move the School Board elections back to April. In an emergency school board meeting – also known as a circus to many – Miccio, up for re-election, has again flip-flopped and switched her vote in favor of the April elections.

At the last vote, the Board Attorney could be seen visibly upset after Miccio voted for the November Elections, although he denies trying to convince her either way.

Voting for the move were Grunhut, Friedman, Greenspan and Zlatkine.

Seitler, Silver, Tift and Fink – all who voted for the elections to be moved to November during last Board meeting – were absent at the vote. TLS.

  1. This is insane!! The board attorney doesn’t get what he wants so he tells her how to vote and holds another vote!!! We need a new attorney that will be honest!

  2. Does anyone realize whats doing over here! A few board members are trying to save tax payers some money by moving it to November like most other districts in NJ.A few want it in April for reasons no one knows or understands. They turn over the world twists arms to get what they want.WAKE UP EVERY ONE VOTE OUT THE BOARD MEMBERS (moderated).go Tracy !

  3. The law is clear. Once the school election was moved to November, it cannot be moved back to April for at leas 4 years. It is now up to State attorneys to interpert the law and determine whether the Board can rescind its earlier vote for November.

Why is the attorney so scared of ALL the voters scrutiny in a November election?

  4. because some people WORK for a living and waiting till midnight for the board to emerge from executive session is INSANE.

  5. I understand there is an email circulating that actual states one member was spoken to by someone else on how to vote. After reviewing the video recently posted I can only imagine who that person was.

  6. Let’s get things straight here, we might not like michael inzelbuch for various reason may it be because of his power, numerous jobs or because of the money he makes. At least I know that lakewood has, if not the top one of the best special education attorneys in the State this is proven and known its a Fact so let’s not argue you on that. So without michael there tell me how the situation would play out? Let’s be honest not one person up on that table has a degree of anything big, so yes I rather have an overpowering attorney who makes a lot of money and is the best.

  7. totally illegal, lets see now if the stste will step in and fix this problem .the law is clear once you vote to move the date of the election it CANNOT be reversed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. However, now the people CAN vote on the huge budget increase. If the voting was moved to November then the people COULD NOT vote on the huge increase. Is that what you people want – a huge budget increase without the power to vote it down???

  9. im confused…if not all the board members were there by the re-vote, how can the vote take place? in my opinion, that is NOT a fair vote. it clearly states that the 4 who voted for the move to november were not present at the time of the re-vote. and it lists 4 who voted for the move back to april. dunno, just sounds really confusing to me.

  10. This is how democracy works? you wait until those who have a different oppinion are not present to take another vote ,
    D I S G U S T I N G . I’m in favor of calling the State dept of Education to investigate this vote !

  11. The Lakewood School District, and by inference, Lakewood Township has become the laughing stock of the county.

However, the actions demonstrated here today accurately portray a BOE that is deeply divided and out of control. The pressure was on Ms. Miccio, who again changed her vote. Either Ms. Miccio has no deep feelings about the issue, or she simply went along with the BOE members in attendance. The answer is unknown, but what is known is that there is an absolute need for state intervention.

Ms. Miccio should reconsider any thoughts of continuing as a member of the BOE. However, I do not place the entire blame on her. Her shoulders are frail and she had no support from members that were absent. Where were they? Why did they not go the extra mile to assure the issue was settled once and for all.

The hit and miss of BOE members at important meetings cannot continue. They swear or affirm that they will carry out their duties as members of the duly elected Board of Education. When will they make an effort to comply with that commitment?

I would assume that the County Clerk will reject this latest vote, because the November filing has been completed, and by statute, the School District is obligated to stay with the plan for 4 years.

Stay tuned. This is not over yet.

  12. Was that considered a quorem? If the others were present and voted no and (correct me if I am wrong) robert rules would dictate a 2/3 majority to over-ride a former motion…..

  13. I was by todays vote and I noticed that the boe didn’t post the public notice on the bulletin (a direct contradiction to the opening statement). I’m wondering if this should be brought up to the state and county clerk as an additional reason to contend todays vote ( My understanding is that if a meeting is not properly advertised then any decision made by the meeting is worthless). The BOE can’t possibly schedule a new meeting, because they must advertise in the paper at least 48 hours in advance, and they would miss the deadline.
We have many people who were there today the will testify.

  14. All those who voted to have the election in April, supposedly to give the voters a say on the budget, are the ones who passed the huge Three Million increase and (moderated). Who are you trying to fool?

  15. To Mr Hobday
The other BOE members were not in attendance because have jobs in the morning. They did feel an obligation to take off work to vote on something that was already passed and certified by the county clerk.what was the emergency meeting. What was wrong with keeping the elections in November like most other districts in NJ.

  16. The meeting on Friday morning to post the school budget was cancelled.
There was to be a penalty of decreasing the amount of State Aid, if this was not done in time.
So, how much in lost State Aid will it now cost the taxpayers, at the expense of our children’s education?

  17. This is why the teachers can’t get a contract, they can’t make up their minds. They can’t make a decision or work together to solve problems.
    They are a disgrace.

  18. so now you deleted my comments for no reason at all ,so sad that you cannot voice your oppinion here ,its bad enough that we have a BOE that does some very underhanded things and now you cannot even bring attention what is an injustice . What are you hidding this stuf for ??????????????????

  19. At todays meeting the board attorney asked forgiveness for his rude remarks at last weeks meeting. I hope he’s sincere (I guess time will tell), and think some other members of the board should apologize for their comments.

  20. the truth is Friedman and Greenspan could not make the Friday morning. The board received an email from the attorney after 9pm on Sunday night. This meeting was well staged.
Irene wasn’t confused when she voted yes to move the vote, in reality it wasn’t what the attorney wanted to hear.

  21. In todays APP it was stated Irene was confused. The residents of Lakewood should demand Irene withdraws from the election. How can the township vote for someone who aklowedges she has no dea what she is voting on.
The state need to step in to avoid more calamity to the district

  22. If someone has the answer please advise:, How do we go to the county or the state to prove Irene is not suitable to be a member of the school board

  23. not sure why my comments are being moderated but here goes another.
in todays APP the paper has quotes from Irene Miccio and the board attorney. Irene must disqualify herself from the up-coming election

  24. Look at how many people have retired early or left the Public Schools in the last five years. This was once a successful district. It’s sad to see the destruction.

  25. A Quote from the APP
“County Clerk Scott Colabella said Monday a letter has been sent to the state Attorney General’s Office, the Secretary of State, the Department of Community Affairs, Commissioner of Education, and the county Board of Elections seeking guidance on how to handle the conflict of multiple resolutions from Lakewood’s school board.

The board’s first resolution to keep the April election came at a Feb. 13 meeting.”

  26. I long for the day when we will have a board that will concentrate on the educational issues that plague our public and private schools instead of a board who is sworn to serve the interests of the few while children, our most important commodities are set to suffer.

  27. Just an FYI to the person who wanted to know how to get rid of someone. NJ allows recalls. If you get enough signatures, you can place a recall question on the ballot. This should be very easy to do in Lakewood.
