VIDEO: The Township is exploring the idea of allowing certified snow-plowers utilize Township plows in order to assist the Department of Public Works in major snow cleanup operations. The idea would be to have a large database of certified plowers approved as vendors for the Township to allow the DPW to call on them in emergency situations.
With plow operators working thorugh the day and night without sleep, “there’s just not enough people to do it”, Committeeman Meir Lichtenstien says.
Lichtenstien says the Township is working with the Union representing the DPW, and the Township is reviewing the legalities to ensure the drivers – who don’t have their own trucks – would be properly insured when using Township trucks.
Lichtenstien says that should this idea be approved, an RFP would be put out for certified snow plow operators. TLS.
its so nice to see learning from mistakes, clearly they cant manage on their own…
You are going to let non township people drive our trucks? They should be made to carry their own collusion and liability insurance, because they should be responsible for any damage they do to our trucks. If it is not theirs you never know how they will drive.
It is “insurance” not ensure…
Hiring former employees who know the town and are experanced with the equipment would be a good idea, as a former employee who moved on to a different position I would not mind making a few extra dollars doing what I always did anyway. Just something to think about.
They should also do our driveways!!!
its a great idea….but still behind the curve.
they should outsource the entire public works dept to smaller contractors. then the smaller contractors would have to complete for price & quality.
they have this already for the busing.
so how would out taxes go down from this ??
great idea but instead of hiring people to drive our equipment why not just hire outside contractors and let them use their own equipment, as you all know if you are using your own equipment you wil take better care of that equipment..Keep in mind the equipment that we have can cost a lot to repair and if there is no money in the budget to repair that equipment then what..
I cannot even start to think for one second that this could happen in this town. Look at the accident rate, with all this traffic around. People have to treat snow like the gift it is from mother nature, I mean do you really have to drive all over town in bad weather? Where are you going if everyone else is snowed in and home. Stop being so selfish and learn to take a deep breath and wait a day or two and your little part of the world will be clear of snow. The mayor would be doing us all a better service if he enacted a no driving ordinance law, until public works and the police department say its safe to drive out.
Are you that lazy you can’t remove snow from your own driveway? It is good exercise, and fun way to spent time with family, clearing snow.
