  1. I think it’s obvious that schools are not going to decline bus service if it is offered so I think it’s an unfair poll. We are all voting that the drivers should not be forced to drive on those days and so it shouldn’t be offered to the schools. Once it’s offered – obviously the school’s will accept. Otherwise all the parents will be screaming that the school turned down bussing.

  2. What you or I feel about the topic is moot. If the law is that the schools are entitled, any empathy I have for the drivers will not change that. And the parents and schools have a right to the bussing.

I personally would not have voted ObamaCare, and am very distressed that it became the law of the land.

All the same, I took full advantage of the law, and am reaping the benefits that it conferred upon me without compunction.

After all, I am not a fool.

  3. While were at it maybe the police dept should take off thanksgiving, or the fire department close down for the day or maybe all the nurses and doctors in the hospitals should not have to work.

While feel bad for the drivers that they have to work, IT IS THER JOB. if they don’t like there job quit.

BTW what are we talking about, 2 hours in the morning & 2 hours in the afternoon, it is not like they are working ALL DAY. So they wont have time to waltch all the football games.

I worked every year on thanksgiving so i had my meal a little later in the day.

Grow up and stop complaining about every little issue. Your lucky that you have a job.

  4. As can be evidenced by election polls on TLS vs the results, it would seem the posters/readers of this site are a small minority whose views aren’t necesarily in line with public opinion

  5. If not for all the private school bussing, how many drivers would be out of work? Everyone is very greatful for the bus drivers and appreciates them. You don’t like your schedule don’t work for them. Be happy you have a job! Lifes hard- works hard. Gotta do what you gotta do!

  6. during the jewish holy days, succos, peshach etc. the bus drivers do not get paid, they lose income. the drivers have holidays and they should be respected…..we all live in the same world and its not a matter of whos holiday is deemed more important….respect for each other is important!!

  7. lets be clear, the bus drivers were not told at the beginning of the year that they might have to work on their holidays. most are woman who take this job as a part time job to be home with their children when they are off from school. it is also correct that when the jewish private school are closed for their 3 biggest holidays some peple do not get paid for 11 days some times, do they complain no because they have compassion, respect and care for the children relegion that they are involved around. I think if the jewish private school parents were asked to bring their children to school on a holiday of theirs they would not do it.

  8. Just so you know bus drivers leave their yard at 6 am and do not get back until 930 10 am depending on where the yard is and in the pm they go out at 1 pm and most do not get abck in until 6 or 630 the jewish school run on different hours. to make you aware because you are not a driver, you chose to work on an american holiday on your own we are choosing not we are choosing to respect our holidays and keeping them apart of our herritage.

  9. i just want to thank all the parents for there wonderful comments on sticking with us bus drivers. and as far as two runs in the am and two in the pm you are wrong. i have 4 runs in the am for the jewish schools and two jewish schools in the pm but i also have two public schools in the pm. i start at 6:30 am and end at 9:45 am. i am back on the road at !:30 pm and end at 5 :30 pm. i am working thanksgiving in the morning.I will not work in the afternoon. My son is having us over for 4pm.He lives an hr away. It is what it is. we all cant get fired then no one will have transportation for there children

  10. Many people who observe Thanksgiving take jobs that require them to work on Thanksgiving. When the drivers were told that it was a possibility in the beginning of the year, they signed the contracts because they wanted the job. It’s not fun to work on a holiday & may require some sacrifice on the part of the driver but it comes with the job requirements. I have to go to work on days that are not convenient for me either- that’s how life is sometimes. We appreciate the drivers, the fact that we are asking them to come to work so our children can get to school in a safe and timely fashion on a day that they have school is not a contradiction to that.

  11. I work in a large company that requests certain departments to come in Thanksgiving. those employees get paid very handsomely for coming in on the holiday. i would suggest that there be some sort of bonus for those bus drivers that drive on thanksgiving. i don’t think it’s fair to require employees to work on a holiday without added compensation.

  12. some bus companies never told their employyees that they may ahve to work on the holidays infact we never have, this is the first year we are being told this and it is terrible that we now find out that it is a possibilitlty the companies knew about this and purposely never said a word in fear they would have no drivers to cover the alrealdy promissed run, does anyone know if holding such information is legal we bus drivers are all confused

  13. My daughter’s school is a 9 minute drive from my house. It took me over an hour to get from her school to home last time the bus drivers had off. Even so, I would gladly do it again in order to allow these drivers their well deserved day off.

  14. Please allow me to make something clear….the reson why Jews don’t work on their holiday is not because its a holiday, its because it is prohibited to work, so comparing Jewish holidays to American holidays is foolish and completly misses the boat

  15. There are some days that all schools should be closed to show respect to our country and to show mutual respect to our fellow man.
Veterans day, Memorial day, Thanks Giving and Christmas.
Public schools are closed on our high holy days for one reason or another. There is no difference

  16. If you are an American citizen this is a holiday… End of story..Banks, usps Is closed all public schools are closed… please stop seperating yourself the the rest of the USA. You live in Lakewood, NJ, 08701 USA.
