PHOTOS & VIDEO: This afternoon, dozens of officials from Lakewood, Brick and Toms River gathered for a meeting in support and for further development of the DART program. DART, Developing Alcohol Responsibility Together, and a project of Saint Barnabas, is a State-funded grant program aimed at protecting our young adults ages 18-25, from the dangers of underage and excessive drinking.
The DART Team, made up of key community leaders including local law enforcement, county and local officials, substance abuse professionals, clergy, business owners, young adults and educators spearhead Project DART. The goal of Project DART is to reduce alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents involving 18-25 year olds in Brick, Lakewood and Toms River.
The reason for focusing on Brick, Lakewood and Toms River, is because statistics show these municipalities were the location of over 50 percent of Ocean County’s alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents amongst 18-25 year olds. Further, they are home to 38 percent of the 18-25 year olds who were involved in alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents in Ocean County.
At the meeting today, hosted by the Blue Claws, Mayor Menashe Miller, flanked by Director of Development Steven Reinman and Lakewood Police Captain Gregory Meyer, presented DART officials with a plaque, thanking them for their efforts and for bringing the program to fruition.
The Mayor also presented them with a Township resolution involving underage drinking, which passed its first reading this past week. The soon-to-be law will give authorities more control over underage drinking parties. The law will exclude religious events.
Also in attendance was Simcha Greenwald, the Dean of Chavrei Hakollel and Director of Alternative Education in Lakewood. TLS.

I thought the legal age is 21. Well we learn something new every day.
This is a true kiddush hashem! Working together with all segments of the community to tackle an all important issue!
Now I would like to see a similar effort to combat the smoking that is rampant in our yeshivas.
This is a very good start. Kudos to DART, Mayor Kehlehar and Mayor Miller for taking an active stance on this issue!
