Readers’ Scoop: A Kiddush Hashem

Readers-Scoop-Logo smallAs many of you know, there is a Jewish teller in the Wells Fargo (Wachovia) bank on the corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Route 9 that recently was sitting shiva on the passing of his wife. Many people from the community made it their business to make a condolence call to him. The following is a copy of the emailĀ I received from his son —

” Hi there. This is Xxxx Xxxxx oldest son. We met on Friday.

I’m writing to extend my thanks for the support you’ve shown my dad. For months I’ve been incredibly worried about him being alone, and lonely, but seeing the support and that came to him from the community, not out of obligation, or as a mitzvah, but out of true kindness and caring, those concerns for him that weighed me down so heavily have been all but lifted.

If there is anything I can do, my skills lie in computer and web tech, I would gladly offer any services for no cost.

My door, though 3,000 miles away, is always open, and please if ever you or any of the people in the community find themselves sitting at their computer frustrated, or in need of anything to streamline a process, anything at all, don’t hesitate to call on me.

I offer this not out of a sense of feeling a need to return a good deed, but purely out of wanting to help in some way those who genuinely reached out to my dad during this difficult and otherwise lonely time.

I hope for you and all of your family and friends only good things, and I’m confident we will some day meet under happier circumstances.

Please forward this email to anyone else who sat with my dad. Yours was the only contact info I got.

Again, I can’t thank you, and yours, enough for all the genuine friendship and support you’ve given my dad. It’s as if a huge weight has been lifted, knowing he’s not alone with me being so far away.”

A true Kiddush Hashem.

  2. I did see Bill last week come for shachris to Sons of Israel and say Kaddish. May Hashem give you strength to continue on,and may her soul rest in peace.. We are here for you Bill.

  3. What attracted me to Judaism was the religion’s compassion to mourners, widows and orphans. Kind acts, no matter how small, provide comfort, not hollow words.

  4. Im not really sure the intention was for this to be posted publicly . There is a big difference between forwarding e mails tothers and posting it on a public web site where everybody including the person himself can read it and the comments .
