NJ State Police Issue Over 20 Summonses In Lakewood For Snow On Vehicles

state_police_tls_picTLS has learned that State Police patrolling Lakewood today have issued over 20 summonses in Lakewood alone today to motorists driving with snow on top of their vehicles. It’s unknown at this time if any were issued by Lakewood Police. The recently implemented law requires motorists to remove all ice and snow from their vehicles before traveling on the roads.

Fines are not less than $25 or more than $75 for each offense regardless of whether any snow or ice is dislodged from the vehicle.

Fines increase to $200 to $1,000 when injuries or property damage occur. Commercial motor vehicle drivers face fines ranging from $500 to $1,500 for each offense. There are no points involved.

  1. .. Great!

Thank you to the State Troopers who are concerned enough about safety that they take the time to get out of their vehicles into the cold outdoors to teach some citizens lessons we hope they will not forget for a long time.

    Thank You!!

  2. Its about time someone within the law enforcement agency had the (moderated) to handle this matter. This is very dangerous and the public should be issued a summons and made to clean their vehicles right on the spot after receiving the summons.

  3. Since the State Police issued the tickets who can we possibly complain to so the can be taken care of??? Does anyone have Christie’s phone number so we can put a stop to any law enforcement in Lakewood??

  4. Christie has made many promises to Lakewood and the community. Has he kept any of them? This may be a new way for the State of NJ to raise money.

  5. #3 Welcome to the world of following the law for a change. Laws are in place to secure public safety. Its sad it takes the State Police to do the job local cops should be doing. I guess #3 got a ticket…. a snow brush is cheaper then a ticket.

  6. i suggest we bring more state troopers to lakewood to help fight crime. The local police can use some serious help. If they will give out more tickets- so be it! At least i wont have to worry about letting my wife and kids out at night.

  7. The Police Lakewood OR STATE POLICE did the right thing , Hope they do learn a lesson, Now they should enforce the parking rules also ,not to close to corners , one side street parking , etc !!!! THEY WOULD RAKE IN THE MONEY !!!!!

  8. Thank you State Police!!! Come early and often!! And for the (moderated) who can’t take the time to clear off their cars…you deserved the ticket.

  9. .. that I used to always remove the snow from my car’s rooftop before they made this into law. it seemed like plain old common sense to me that I wouldn’t want to risk injuring someone, or damaging something due my negligence in failing to remove a potential hazard.

I guess that unfortunately there are too many times we need to legislate common sense..

  10. Here is what I don’t understand. No one in town complains that the State Police are in town, writing tickets, they are actually being thanked. But when LPD goes out to write tickets to enforce the law too, all you hear are complaints from residents who say that Lakewood has too many cops if they are issuing summonses and that they should be locking up drug dealers so on and so forth. Just don’t get it.

  11. Dear Carr Fan, what would really make you sick would be if your car was hit by debris from someone who was too lazy to clean off their car; and you got into an accident.
And #13…Thanks to our LPD for their great job enforcing the law while getting grief from the offenders. They are a great bunch of men and women. And no, I’m not a cop!

  12. Lakewood is a portion of the beautiful state of new jersey so why shouldn’t the State Police be in town? They have the constitutional and statutory authority to enforce motor vehicle and criminal laws anywhere within the borders of New Jersey and usually do so. Plus Lakewood is an easy target for people that don’t want to take the time to clean off their cars before hitting the road. Kudos to the NJSP.

  13. Welcome New Jersey State Police, i wish to offer a building; aka sub station for you guys to take a break in and fill out paperwork, stock up tickets, etc. I think it is nice that you care for our residents and we welcome you. Please take friday nights off and enjoy your weekend.

  14. I really love to read the comments! It’s clear the NJSP know how to get the message out. Considering the amount of minivans and SUV’s that we have in town. Heck I wonder how many tickets were issued for overcrowding or failure to have car seats? Not for nothing, but I have a 4 year old who is still in a car seat, yet when I go to Shoprite in Lakewood, I see the following – ducks in a row ages 2-6 not in a car seat! These kids are not 4’11 and weigh 80lbs…Heck, I see some Mexicans holding INFANTS in their ARMS in the FRONT seat!!! Come on NJSP – teach common sense to people!

  15. Lets be real about why the State Police are in this township, it seems more so then anywhere else, and whom are they pulling over more then anyone else. They are here because they get a kick out of going after jews….you know the religious ones. My friends its blatant anti-semetism. For all those that are ready to jump on me go right ahead, but this is the sad truth.

  16. To Cool masmid –

I think we should file a suit against the state! It is clearly obvious there is an attack. I’d like to know how many of us got tickets vs other populations in the community.

  17. Y r the Troopers in Lakewood giving out tickets they should b on the parkway were they belong. Lakewood PD does a good job now n leave us alone…Troopers losers

  18. What’s with you guys? It’s the law. You don’t want to follow it? You’ll be made to follow it. Grow up and stop acting like spoiled brats.

  19. stop pulling the bias card- just clean your cars off and there won’t be a problem! its the law and it applies to everyone and whomever doesn’t follow it will get a ticket- regardless of who you are. unless you have such a lack of regard for other peoples lives and safety that your selfishness is clouding your common sense

  20. For anyone that doubts how ridiculous this law is consider this, NJ is the state in the country that has such a law!!!
Not unlike the “you can’t fill your own gas tank” law which only one other state has (Oregon)
This is a nanny state that wants excuses to ticket you!!!

  21. people have lost lives because vehicle owners wer neglegent ot clean off their cars and to selfish to consider the ramifications when a big chunk of snow (or snow blowing off your car) blocks the visibilty of the vehicle behind it or going in the opposite direction.

The reason we may need NJ STP is becuase they will nto be afraid to ticket. I am not saying they are perfect but LPD would get harrased for enforcing this needed law as its obvious not som many NJ residents care about someone elses safety.

This is the same in regards to parking at corners (blocking people view from crossing) closer then 25 feet, parking in “T “intersections, parking into the road although snow is piled high past the curb- you are actualy blocking 2 way traffic. All these are a violation that do effect others But you did not think about it that way and g-d forbid you get a ticket.

    VEOHAVTA LEREACHA KOMOCHA-
So start thinking about others and the reasons for such laws should be enforced. Ask any posek and they would say the person parked illegaly is wrong and most probably say he is mazik es harabim.

ITS CALLED COMMON SENSE- OR- MIDDOS ALERT!!!!!!- DERECH ERETZ.

  22. Next they should team up with All The Way Towing & tow every corner hugger. these illegal parkers do not have any consideration for others. This is so unsafe. Just ride up & down Forest Avenue.

  23. LPD can’t give out tickets if they did there would be riots and cops getting fired. What the troopers need to do now is start tickiting people talking on their phone.

  24. State Police: Thank you for enforcing a law that makes sense!
Non-Compliant Drivers: Get with the program – this law -at least- makes sense!

  25. Well said funny but very true!
To the people that say they are being targeted how about follow the law and you won’t get stopped. Oh wait the state police have not got the memo about good hearted people not having to follow the law call Chris maybe he will give the State boys the memo.

  26. There needs to be more State Police in Lkwd to enforce the laws including the motor vehicle laws. People need to follow the laws and when they don’t, there needs to be consequenses (tickets, fines, etc.) Stop complaining and follow the laws and they won’t need to make their presence as frequent. At least with NJSP there is no favoritism.

  27. Welcome NJSP, it’s about tome someone is enforcing the law, try cleaning off your car and also slow down, doing 50 mph on a snow covered Joe Parker Ave isn’t too smart.

  28. They are New Jersey State Police which gives them the right to be in any town in NJ. Follow the laws and you won’t have to worry about them or their tickets.

  29. why is evryone thanking these state troopers they DO NOT belong here they only come to give tic. and when there is real crime like stabbing etc. they are noware to be found get them out of lakewood there are more lakewood cops then we need look at the police lot on lex. there are about 50 cars say no to state troopers in lakewood.

  30. I was wondering why there were so many State Police in lakewood yesterday. I was convinced that they were looking for a murder suspect. I’m not kidding you. I coudn’t think of any other reson.

Now that we know the reason though, isn’t it fair to ask why was Lakewood targeted more than any other neighborhood? I don’t believe there were as many Police Troopers in any other township. There just aren’t that many of them to park themselves all over the place.

  31. There is way to many State Boyz in Lakewood. Lakewood is unfairly targeted by State Troopers. If u say its because the Murder rate is up in Lakewood well the State Troopers dont handle murder its local police and county police. Theres are to many state boys in lakewood and i bet u that the jewish community is not targeted as much as the rest. Go to Newark or camden we dont need u here. Stop stealing from the already poor.

  32. every1 talks about economy yet Lakewood has its own police , State troopers, and now transit police are u kidding me and all this is to patrol a 10 block radius. Stop stealing from the poor to recover your dept. a bad inspection sticker is not killing anyone u want to fight gangs then get out of your (moderated) patrol car its not gonna b done behind a steering wheel and a ticket pad u make people rob banks in order to survive these outrages ticket prices go to Toms River, Brick, jackson why dont u because those residents aint having it huh.

  33. I have never seen more people crying because they can’t get away with breaking the law. Lakewood is too funny. So a few State Police give out tickets in….wait for it. A town in NEW JERSEY and they are wrong? Or they don’t belong here? Lakewood is still in New Jersey isn’t it? Now its anti-semitic? Just like when the cops in Howell give out tickets on Squankum Road for everyone driving out of Lakewood on their cell phones? How about trying this, DON’T BREAK THE LAW! Everytime a law is enforced in Lakewood everyone cries fowl. Its pathetic. Getting in trouble for breaking the law is only the fault of the person breaking that law. Live with it. People in Lakewood are just used to getting away with it because the LPD is understaffed, too busy with mutiple accidents and crimes to deal with smaller issues like cell phones and snow. You should be thankfull the State Police has come in to assist in protecting you from an ignorant person who cares not if a chunk of ice flies off his/her roof into your windshield.

  34. to #25 aka #30… if you feel that “we” are being targeted and attacked, then “we” need to follow the laws of government and this would not be a concern of yours. All your comments do is make it appear that “we” do not know how to drive or follow laws. You are making it look bad for others who follow the laws. You are may be one of the people to complain about laws being enforced if it was by the LPD hence the reason for State Police having to come in to Lakewood.
