PHOTOS: Just 6 hours after two people were shot on East 5th Street, police found the body of a young African American man dead in an alleyway off of Ridge Avenue. At about 2:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a call of a man laying on the ground with blood around him, and found a man dead, with gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Police and CIU were at the scene investigating the murder.
It’s unknown if the two incidents – which occurred just blocks from each other – are related. TLS-SR.
They kill each other.
Create an axuilary police and arm them!

I live in the area and we have had a lot of problems from the people in that house
This is what happens when there are no controls over rentals , I am not insinuating they are all gang members ,but lets just look at the facts here and what has taken place here in Lakewood and it speaks volumes as to why we have now have high crime rate with gun violence. and no I’m not anti-gun ownership .
I fimly believe in the right of Law Abiding Citizens right to posses firearms.
Maybe its just an assumption on my part that it involes a rented home , but I’ll bet I am right
to respond to #2 I don’t bel;ieve that would make any differance at all ,Lakewood needs to step up to the plate to keep this criminal element out with some contols with background checks on rentals to private homes
this is WESTWOOD and there is always been problems there. Finaly the “OLD” owners foreclosed and the “New” owners are building townhouses. But the old house are still up and open and there has been gang activity there as its a dead end seculded block. There is an opening to negba private playground which gang memebrs use to cut acroos to Ridge and down to East 5th.
Dont forget about the assasination a few years ago just around the corner on East 7th.

Do your research before you move into any neighborhood in any town. Citizens have the right to call the local police department and ask about the crime on that street. This is nothing new and its not getting that much worse then it was 20 years ago!
This is SICKENING! Seems like turf war….. We’re living in an area possibly as dangerous as the Gaza Strip! Our officers should be patrolling with M16’s.
None of you have any idea what you are talking about, armed auxillary police? If you want more of a police presence in your neighborhood then talk to the township comitee and tell them to have more officers hired. The police force is already thin, and getting thinner with all the retirements going on. There are officers on the street but they cannot be everywhere at once. You must remaind active and vigilant, when you see things happening i.e. someone getting shot call when you see the guys go down the alley not after you hear the shots.
how can people make comments like the ones im reading! this was a human being,someones child,i know this young mand and his family,he WAS NOT in a gang,how shallow minded and evil of anyone to assume and make justification for someone losing their life. how would you feel if it was your child,brother,cousin or anyone else you love? you live in lakewood in that area,what if you had happen to be there at the wrong place or wrong time? would it then be ok for everyone to assume it was your fault and you were in a gang? i think not! how ignorant and shallow minded, where is your respect for humn life? When are people going to realize that the Police cannot be everywhere at once? Its hard to be proacctive when they are running from call to call. Yes, some of the calls probably are due to stolen bicycles, car burglaries etc. If people would put their things away and lock their doors that would probably free the police up. But then again, if there are cars and many people going in and out of a house you cannot assume it is gang activity. How many other houses are schools with people going in and out? Or People visiting? Should the police harass them too? Come on get real.

lots of different oppions here,bottom line is there is a large criminal element here in Lakewood , I have been here for more than 40 years and it much worse than 20 years ago . Yes there was always some break ins but I think the facts will bear out that the murder & drug rate is much worse now .
The LPD does a great job given the tough conditions that prevail in this town . How many who complain about the LPD would be willing to step into their shoes????????????

I am the mother of the man who was shot to death in a n allyway off Ridge Ave…..”NO ONE” wants to get involved but “EVERYONE” wants something to be done. It has to start from the beginning–you people are on here complaining about the activities in your neighborhoods, the “black” people that are there causing kaoss, and the bad house you are referencing, but why are you on TLS commenting. Go to the police department, call 911, do something besides “NOT GETTING INVOLVED” then you can comment on what should have been done and what could have been done when “NOTHING WAS DONE”. There were gunshots, obviously several gunshots but no calls “NOTHING” until someone saw him laying dead in a pool of blood. WHY!!! WHY!!! I feel like we come from different religious beliefs but we all bleed the same red blood and our hearts feel the same for our children. WHY couldnt someone call, why did no one see anything, WHY!!!!! Now my sone who I consider African American / Italian is dead and my family is having to plan a funeral for a 20 year old child with an incredibly BIG HEART. Maybe if someone made that call when they heard several gunshots my son would have a chance and the 4 sisters a parents and family he left behind would not be greaving terribly. It should be who’s, not whos.
It should be you’re, when you mean you are, not your, which means belonging to you.
And, as pointed out, it should be their, meaning belonging to them, not there, which means it that place.
Also, the first letter in a sentence should be capitalized. The phrase African Americans should also be capitalized.
It pains me to read some of these cruel narrowminded posts. #1, #17 and #27 shame on you. We don’t have a whole story and you don’t have any idea if the victim was to blame. And even if he was, it’s not our way to wish people dead. (remember “arrur apam”?)

#29, I am sorry for your loss. I don’t live in that neighborhood, so I didn’t know about this until I read it on the scoop, but I am truly sorry. I hope whoever shot your son gets his just deserts.
My condolences and heartfelt sorrow to the mother that lost her son. Regardless of what a person does right or wrong in their life, their life shouldn’t end from criminal violence.

we did not hear any shots and we wonder if the actual shooting took place on Westwood or did they use a silencer.
I would assume that the person who called the police lives on Westwood and did so when he found your son laying on the floor.
Please note it was 2:30 am and it was in an area that is a dead end block and has been a hang out for questionable criminal activity.
We dont care what race the person is- if its gang related we dont want it in our back yars or our streets.
No one should die the way your son died. but he obviously was targeted the way the news is describing how he was killed.
if his true friends would let the police know who he associated with they may be able to catch the killers and prevent future killings.
Your son is not the first one to be kille dthis way in the area. A few years ago just around the corner another person was targeted and slained while sitting in his car just across the street from a known gang/drug house. No one was willing to come forward to le tthe police know who did it. People saw but no one spoke.
Unless the friends of the salin are willing to stand up to the gangs and say – its enough- we will NOT allow you to rule our lives and threaten us with violence. We WILL stand up units and fight the crime!!! its hopeless.
its the friends that may know who did this and if they were mature and smart they would go to the police. Striking back will only cause more death and more power to the gangs.

Talking about people with no green cards? Also driving with no drivers license and that boarding home on 7th street, those people loiter all on 2nd street and drinking in public. That has getting out of control, and cursing in public and being LOUD!!!!!!!!!
