If you haven’t already, get used to reading about more high profile retirements over the next few weeks as more and more of the Police Department’s Top Brass and most experienced officials, leave the force. The head of the Detectives Bureau, Detective Lieutenant William Addison, 60, has confirmed to TLS that this is his last week with the LPD as he retires after 39 years on the job.
“The Town has been good to me and my family all these years”, says Addison who was also the LPD’s Press Secretary. “I’ve worked with a great bunch of guys”, he said.
Lt. Addison took over the as head of the Detectives Bureau after Detective Joe Isnardi retired last August.
Prior to his current position, Lt. Addison served in the Department’s Detectives Bureau from 1980-1986, and in Administration, from 1986-1994.
“I’ve been fortunate in my career to have had the opportunity to work in different positions” Addison says. “They showed trust in me, and were really good to me”.
Police Chief Rob Lawson says this is another great loss for the Department.
“He will be sorely missed”, Chief Rob Lawson says. “We went to classes together and we were promoted together”, says the Chief. “He’s someone who would love to stay”, but will be retiring due to the potential pension reform, not only on State level, but on a local level as well the Chief said.
This past Thursday, another high ranking official in the department, Detective Sergeant William Rodriguez said his goodbyes in a private ceremony after 27 years on the force.
As the year nears its end, more and more high ranking officials are looking to pull the plug leaving over 25 years of police experience behind, before their hard-earned pensions are depleted.
“Over the next three months, the Lakewood Police Department will be going through a massive overhaul”, says Addison.
And next year, doesn’t look too promising either, Chief Rob Lawson says, as a new group reaches their 25 years of service mark, and some already indicating they will be submitting their retirement papers.
By the time the beginning of 2011 comes around, up to 15 of the highest ranking officials in the department will have pulled the plug, so as not to risk the depleting of their pensions.
Lieutenant Addison will be retiring in a private ceremony.

Its a shame that so many dedicated high ranking members will be leaving,however its very undersatnable move on their part. After dedicating many years of service to Lakewood ,they really have no choice given the circumstance that would negatively effect their pensions . I wish all them well in their retirement.
I don’t understand why these Detective Superisors are choosing to go out with a private ceremony.

Well it is true that many high ranking members are leaving the force, there are many who will be staying and are in-line for promotions. Now the manager and committee need to support the chief and make the necessary promotions as not to affect the current day to day operations at the department. Time to let others rise into the ranks and carry the best department ( as voted in APP ) into the future.
Um….this is pretty scary. So many officers bailing out at the same time.

You can thank the current governor for his decision to change the current pension system. This is why your police force is getting “out of dodge” in a hurry.

Do not blame the governor for tough choices.3 prior Governors refused to fund the pension system, they also borrowed against the unemployment fund. Chris is trying to be fiscally responsible. Maybe if the other money was deposited over the years we wouldn’t be in this mess. You can’t give money you don’t have. The state spoke volumes when he was elected give him a chance and in a few years when things get under control we will all benefit
To #13 so that means lets put the public safety at risk because the towns and the state were borrowing from the police and fire pension fund and not replacing the money? While the police officers are still paying into the fund weekly!! Now we are losing officers at an alarming rate, and not hiring new officers, and I have not seen one promotion posted anywhere. Det. Sgt. Rodriguez, Det. Lt. Addison who does that leave in charge of the Bureau? I guess you can tell your good buddy Chris as you call him thank you very much. Oh yeah not to mention we just lost Capt. Miick as well and that won’t be the end. The inmates will be running the asylum because of your pal Chris. I hope your streets are safe at night as well as the daytime now. Once they start promoting there won’t be anyone left to patrol the town. We need more cops!
there is no money for more cops..they will have to work with what they have, but I will tell you this..its gonna be a fun couple years..if they do any hiring, it will late in 2011 and that means the new recruits will not be ready until mid 2012 to do any police work on their own. now that all these high ranking officers are leaving…are they going to promote? …if they promote, are they going to hire more officers? …it seems like they are already below the standard amount of officers needed to safely patrol our streets!
