  4. Thank you TLS for posting the pictures of the parade online so everyone can view them. A good job.

However, can someone tell me why does Lakewood bother with a parade on Memorial Day, which commemorates the veterans who fought for the freedom in the world? There were thousands of parents and grandparents who were freed from “camps” in Germany and their offspring now live in Lakewood. And again, this year, VERY FEW are on the sidelines of the parade to honor those veterans. Just look at the background of the pictures to see how many are there. It was nice that a small group of school children were on hand. I can remember years ago when the Clifton Ave. was packed with viewers, some even brought chairs for their viewing pleasure.

  5. I had the honor in marching in this years parade. I am not a veteren. I have been watching the parade for the past 7 or 8 years now. I agree with you 100%.

I was told that many years ago the whole clifton ave was full of residents watching the parade.

It is a shame that more people do not come out, but you have to remember that the jewish schools are open. It is not a vacation day. I do think that they should bring out the kids the parade, but I don’t think that is going to happen.

Lakewood, please do not stop the parade. I still think that lakewood is a small town & I love the small town parades.

  6. To – 16 years living in lakewood.
I have lived in Lakewood since 1962. Yes, you heard right – Clifton Ave. was PACKED with people. However, since then many of the people who likes and cared about the town, have moved out. I will not reiterate about why as you probably know the reason. It used to be a friendly town no matter which group you belonged to. Back then all the schools were closed on the usual holidays including Memorial Day. Back then ALL the people honored the Veterans, unlike it is today.

  7. Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have died so that we in America FREEDOM.

I find it appaling that on this day there is a group of people, who have become a very large portion of the Lakewood poulation, do not take the day to honor those whose lives have been lost so that they may worship and live freely as they do?
It is sad – what are they teaching their children about the diversity that Americans accept and cherish about this country?
