Assemblyman Schnall Introduces Legislation to Crack Down on Ambulance Chasers

New Jersey Assemblyman Avi Schnall (D-Lakewood) has introduced crucial legislation aimed at prohibiting the use of emergency communication receivers for pecuniary gain.

This bill is designed to protect the privacy of individuals in emergency situations and ensure that first responders can perform their duties without interference.

Under current law, it is unlawful to possess or control a radio capable of receiving any message or transmission made on or over any police, fire, or emergency medical communications system while in the course of committing or attempting to commit a crime, including the immediate flight therefrom.

Assemblyman Schnall’s bill expands on this by making it illegal to use such radios for pecuniary gain without proper authorization.

“Protecting the privacy of individuals in emergency situations is paramount,” Assemblyman Schnall said in a statement. “This legislation will ensure that sensitive information communicated during emergencies is not exploited for personal profit. Additionally, it safeguards the ability of first responders to carry out their critical work without unnecessary interference.”

The proposed bill stipulates that any individual found using a radio capable of receiving emergency transmissions for pecuniary gain, without departmental authorization, will be guilty of a disorderly person offense. This offense carries a potential penalty of up to six months imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.

“Our first responders need to communicate effectively and efficiently to save lives,” Assemblyman Schnall added. “By introducing this legislation, we are taking a significant step toward ensuring that their work is unimpeded and that the privacy of individuals during emergencies is protected.”

  1. You promised us tuition relief finish that job before you go on to the next.
    Stop (moderated)

    • So the tuition relief bill is dead and buried never to be resurrected, so tell me again why Schnall is still a member of the party that supports mengele style mutilation of confused children and support brainwashing little children into their degenerate lifestyles.

    • Perhaps let this serve as a painful wake up call to start questioning what the masses are led to believe hook, line, and sinker.

The consequences of not doing so are a lot harsher than let down hopes for lower tuition.

  2. About time!
This is actually a big issue in this town. Although the township did introduce some sort of law against it nothing ever came out of it.
I was involved in an accident a while ago (bh all ok), but I was mobbed and harassed by numerous “Chasers”, I was appaled!

    • And you get harassed daily by fake askanim, fake tzedakah collectors as well. Should we make a bill in Trenton making being Jewish illegal, because some Jews are crazy?

    • In the garbage can. Just like the Congressional stand alone bill passed months ago authorizing billions for Israel. Why? Because anything the Democrat party doesn’t support goes into the garbage. DOA.

  3. Tell me again why anyone voted for Schnall… He’s a democrat …. Lakewood is sooooo brainwashed. Lakewood has gone down the drain…. Sad… VOTE REPUBLICAN.

    • Not really sure what this has to do with democrat or republican. As if he’s a democrat, my foot. He had a open slot as a democrat so if registered as one, he’d just as easily run as a republican if it was convenient. As to why we voted for him, because we like to have a say in the legislature, just like nobody in Boro park needed to be convinced to vote in Simcha felder or Eichenstein, and if you think a Jew in the legislature will do more harm than good, the rabbonim said otherwise. I’m not sure why everything around here must be a fight.

      • Simcha Felder is part of the Republican caucus in Albany. The Democrat party hates him. Schnall is a puppet of the Democrats in Trenton and will never accomplish anything as long as he has to follow what they want. Felder is actually on every major party line, on the ballot.

        • Since you seem to care about the facts, here’s some facts. Simcha Eichenstein, Noach Dear, David Greenfeld, Kamen Yeger, Dov Hikind and others were all democrats when they served. The fact that Hikind switched to republican recently and felder caucused with republicans even though he’s a registered democrat shows that when it comes to frum Jews they register as they need to in order to get a seat. Obviously no frum Jew believes in democrats agenda.
Again, as a long time Brooklynite, I don’t remember there ever being controversy on who to vote for unless there were two yidden running against each other. For some reason it looks like people here like doing the opposite of what they see as popular opinion.

  4. finally long overdue
    the interference to hatzalah members
    is dangerous
and the towing shop solicitors drive like animals to the accidents
    they must be stopped
    kudos to A schnall

  5. who remembers the tow trucks flying through red lights back in brooklyn in the 80’s?, they would blow their air horns and jump every light on high speed to get to accidents, they were very scary
