As of today, the historic Post Office in Downtown Lakewood is closed. The longtime postal facility on Clifton Avenue, which has been slated for closure for several years, is scheduled to be sold this month.
The 19,342-square-foot, 1930s art deco-style building has been a downtown hub for many years, but officials say it is underutilized and no longer efficient. As a result, many services were moved to the more modern facility roughly two miles away in the Industrial Park.
All Lakewood post office retail operations moved to the Lakewood Postal Facility located at 1820 Swarthmore Avenue. P.O. boxes remain with the same numbers, and same keys.
Some services are also available at a new Contract Postal Unit (CPU) at 218 Clifton Avenue.

I don’t know if that building is landmarked but it should not be allowed to be torn down nor altered, if they had not already acquired a building in Pine Park this building should have been Lakewood’s history museum.
who bought the building and what is going to be there? i haven’t been able to find the answer anywhere

Everything is for sale in Lakewood. . It’s Sickening. The people are the ones suffering from all of this mess.
they will tear the building down to make a parking lot as if downtown lakewood isn t congested already!!!!! lakewood shouldn t b called lakewood anymore due to they have knocked down most of our trees and the air quality suks!! should be called “no woods”

Its a nice building but the PO did not need it any longer. Hope they keep the building and make a museum. Revenue can’t hurt.
mail mart is not a post office. there are no postal employees there. it is owned by private business that is not federal. the real post office with postal employees are at 1820 Swarthmore, Lakewood, only
It is what it is folks. This city is overbuilt and overcrowded and it will take forever to get to the other post offices.
I think they should turn it into some kind of attraction that raises money for the city like a museum or arcades and batting cages…
OMG, who needs that thing anyway… if all the services will be available at the privately owned location, then g-d bless!!! the lakewood post office was great to visit… looked like you stepped back into the 50’s or something. It was great to visit but not if you actually needed something. then you could die before you actually wait in the horrible line. All the employees shmooz with e/o like they have hours to kill (maybe they do) but if you were in a rush, that place was a blood pressure coooker… I avoided it like the plague… UPS anyone?

who cares? I never go to Clifton avenue anymore. I stick to the various strip malls around town. Better parking.
Surely the brilliant minds here understand this has nothing to do with Lakewood and everything to do with the federal government right? They know that towns don’t run post offices, nor do they dictate who the feds sell its property too? SMH
